Associate Director of Education
Montalvo Arts Center is seeking an Associate Director of Education to join our outstanding Program Staff. Reporting to the Director of Programs, this position is responsible for program development and operational oversight of Montalvo’s arts education and outreach programs. The Associate Director of Education will collaborate with the Director of Programs, all program staff, as well as resident artists to develop and integrate educational components into the artistic programming of the organization.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Developing
and implementing new and existing education programs that achieve the
following:
- Providing accessible and relevant arts experiences for K-12 students and their teachers throughout Silicon Valley.
- Offering multidisciplinary arts education programs to complement the programs and projects of Montalvo Arts Center, including multi-tiered programs that provide exposure to the arts, interaction with artists, and opportunities for students to become involved in the creative process.
- Integrating school curriculums that provide many different kinds of experiences and are accessible to the diverse educational institutions throughout the Silicon Valley.
- Working
with program staff to broaden and enhance program offerings by developing
approaches for learning in each artistic programming endeavor.
- Producing or supervising the production of all program curriculum and/or study guides.
- Strengthening the organization’s outreach efforts by building upon and creating new relationships with local K-12 schools, universities and secondary educational institutions.
- Identifying core partners and strategically implementing educational programs that complement and contribute to artistic programs.
- Collaborating with the Director of Programs and other program staff to develop, manage and coordinate cross-discipline adult and public education programs.
- Representing the arts education and outreach programs through written documentation and/or public presentation, whenever appropriate, to a vast audience including the general public, educational program constituencies, the media, Montalvo staff and volunteers, trustees and funders.
- Developing and managing annual education program budgets.
- Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating arts education and outreach staff and volunteers.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Educational degree in art or art history; emphasis in contemporary art or art education and/or Masters Degree preferred.
- 5+ years experience in a museum or other nonprofit arts institution at a managerial or supervisory level, with responsibility for designing and carrying out programs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- An interest in developing new models for integrating learning into artistic programming.
- Experience working with artists.
- Experience working with multi-disciplinary arts.
- Knowledge of and experience in curriculum development.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Organized and efficient work habits.
- Experience working with and managing budgets
Status:
Full time. This position requires some evening and weekend availability.
