SEE FULL SCHEDULE: Spring 2010 Concert Series
Sunday, May 9, 2010, 3 p.m.
VENUE: Carriage House Theatre
The Asia America Youth Orchestra (AAYO) present the Northern California premiere of David Benoit's new composition "Native Californian," which was written while he was a fellow at the Lucas Artists Residency Program. Benoit will describe the composition from the stage during this exciting premiere performance.
AAYO was founded in 2001 by Asia America Symphony Orchestra Music Director David Benoit to provide an opportunity for young musicians of all races and cultures to experience and learn to play in a professional level ensemble. By performing musically demanding and diverse repertoire, students are challenged to master a wide variety of musical styles - ranging from classical to jazz. Eligibility extends to qualified music students up to age 18 who play any orchestral instrument and who are interested in classical and jazz music.
Under the leadership of conductor David Benoit, the AAYO continues to perform before capacity audiences. Their concerts also offer talented young soloists the opportunity to perform with the orchestra. AAYO is currently in its eighth season and is also part of the Asia America Symphony Association’s (AASA) regular concert series. Performing as guest artists for many community events, they have also appeared at Montalvo Arts Center, Peninsula Music Fair, and Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
