VENUE: Carriage House Theatre
We meet again to explore the artistic repressions of Stalin’s regime and his insistence that all arts play a larger role elevating the Soviet, socialist and realist agendas. Shostakovich’s opera Lady Macbeth (1932), which was previously acknowledged by the artistic community, was denounced and purged at the hands of Stalin. We follow Shostakovich’s life and works through his subsequent rehabilitation following the Fifth Symphony in 1937.For over 20 years, Robert Greenberg has presented his music lecture series in concert halls, universities, and boardrooms nationally. An accomplished composer with over 45 works to his name, Greenberg has also recorded best-selling audio courses for the acclaimed Teaching Company.
