VENUE: Historic Villa
Miguel Palma is a multi-media artist who lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal. He has been creating works since 1989, exploring themes of the world’s hurried technological development and proposing alternative (and ironic) paths to this hunger for all things new. He has developed work using different mediums from drawing to video and installation, always keeping a strong connection with technology. He uses his art to introduce new values and perspectives, exploring visions on everything that surrounds us in everyday life.
In his Final Fridays event, Palma will present photos, videos and books, tracing a path through his last twenty years as a visual artist, and discuss the new piece that he is developing for the 2010 01SJ Biennial. He offer a retrospective of his work and enlighten visitors about his motivations, ways of working, and future commissions.
2009 Guggenheim Fellow Erin Gee received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in piano and composition, respectively, from the University of Iowa, where she studied with Réne Lecuona, Lawrence Fritts, and Jeremy Dale Roberts. In Austria and Germany, she studied composition with Beat Furrer, Mathias Spahlinger, Chaya Czernowin, Richard Barrett and Steve Takasugi. She completed her Ph.D. in music theory from the University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz in 2007. She has received numerous awards, prizes, and grants for her compositions, which have been performed in venues around the globe.
